March 21st CLC Meeting Canceled: VictorThon Changes to Virtual Event

Friends,

Unfortunately, we feel it is best to cancel our March 21st Common Lives Community meeting. We will hold back for now on canceling April’s event, but we do know that we will not be able to provide childcare for the April meeting.

Also, Dance Marathon at the University of Michigan has changed how it will hold VictorThon. The event will now be held online. Below are the details and how you can participate. If you’re able to contribute material to them for this event, that would be fantastic. It would be best for them to get it by March 18th, and March 22nd is the deadline to send it.

I hope all of you and your families stay healthy. Stay positive, wash your hands often, and stay home if you’re sick(:

Take care,

Jenny

“To all of our Dance Marathon families:

Due to concerns surrounding the 2019 novel coronavirus, COVID-19, Dance Marathon will no longer be hosting our 24-hour event, VictorThon, as it has been traditionally held. Instead, we are excited to host a virtual event in place of VictorThon! This event will stream live on social media and our website, rather than be held physically in the Indoor Training Center. The virtual event will take place during the afternoon of March 28th and pick up again on the morning of March 29th.

While this news is upsetting to us all, we are so excited to offer a number of ways for you and your children to be involved in our virtual event. We would love it if you created a video to show during our Virtual VictorThon, or rallied your social networks behind the cause. Whether this be a video showcasing your child’s talents for our virtual talent show, a filmed runway walk for the fashion show, a testimonial to your family’s experience in Dance Marathon, or a video discussing your concerns as a parent during this difficult time, we would be happy to accept any and all content you wish to include. We want to keep all of you as involved as possible in this experience, and we would love the help of your experiences to motivate dancers to continue fundraising, even as the event looks different.

Despite these unfortunate circumstances, we hope to use this virtual event as an opportunity to bring the campus and the community together for our Little Victors. Now more than ever, the health of you and your children is incredibly important to us, and we are hoping to use our Virtual VictorThon to spread that mission, both now and in the future.

Please feel free to reach out to Carolyn and Sumrah with any questions you may have. The directors welcome any communication at dmum.directors20@umich.edu as well. Thank you so much for your continued involvement with Dance Marathon, and stay tuned for more updates on Virtual VictorThon as the weeks progress.

Now Taking RSVPs for 11-23-19 CLC Meeting

We are now taking RSVPs for our 11-23-19 Common Lives Community meeting. It seems like forever since our last meeting!

The meeting will run from 10:00-11:30, and we will be meeting again at the Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living. I’ll make sure I unlock the door this time(:

3941 Research Park Dr, Ann Arbor, MI 48108

If you plan on bringing your children, please let me know how many to expect from your family by Thursday night to make sure we have enough volunteers. There is no need to RSVP if you plan on coming without them.

Please email me at commonlivescommunity@gmail.com with questions and your RSVPs.

Change to 10-19-19 CLC Meeting

Our October 19, 2019 meeting has been changed. Instead of meeting at the Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living, we decided to attend a sensory friendly event put on my the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra as a group.

This event starts at 10:00 with an instrument exploration period, and  at 11:00, there will be a concert, running to 11:30. The location is Frederic H Pease Auditorium on Eastern Michigan University’s campus (494 College Pl, Ypsilanti, Michigan,48197).

YOU MUST RESERVE YOUR FREE TICKETS FOR THIS EVENT AHEAD OF TIME!!

Here is a link to more information, ticket registration, and social stories to prepare your child for the event.

If you and your family plan to go, please send me an email letting me know. That way, I can try to get seats for us together (no promises, though).

Importantly, I do not think we will have our DMUM volunteers for this event, so there will not be childcare available.

Taking RSVPs for 9-21-19 CLC Meeting

While it’s sad to see summer go, one silver lining is we are starting up our Common Lives Community meetings again!

I’m taking RSVPs for our meeting on 9-21-19 from 10:00-11:30. If you and your family plan on coming, please email me at commonlivescommunity@gmail.com with how many kids and adults to expect from your family. These RSVPs are so helpful because they help us know how many volunteers we need to watch the kids. If you plan on coming without your children, no need to RSVP.

This year we will again be meeting at The Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living.

Please email me with any questions, and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

Take care,
Jenny
