We are starting out as a group that seeks to connect people who have autism in common. Having autism in common can mean a lot of different things, and we look forward to exploring all of these possibilities as we grow.
Currently, we provide a place for parents who have autistic children to meet other people who can relate to how their parenting experiences are different. We want to make it easier for parents to find resources for their children by compiling and promoting opportunities in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area. In the future, we wish to create a platform for our children to meet other people on the spectrum to build friendships. Long term, we want to be an agent in promoting neurodivisity and changing the culture to be more inclusive towards all people with disabilities.
As we start out, our leadership is comprised of the neurotypical parents of young children and therapists. This needs to change. This group seeks to stay rooted in the philosophy of nothing about us without us. We look forward to including autistic teens and adults to our team as Common Lives Community evolves.
